But they did not have corn, the sacred grain hidden behind the mountains. The ancient gods tried to break the mountains with their colossal strength, but they failed. Stage Directions: Actors play as Aztecs, looking hungry, tired, and weak. Others act as gods pushing against the mountains but collapsing, exhausted. Scene 2. The Wisdom of Quetzalcoatl 2°B Narrator: The Aztecs begged Quetzalcoatl for help. “I will bring corn to you,” said the wise god. Then Quetzalcoatl observed an ant carrying a single grain of corn from the mountains. Stage Directions: Quetzalcoatl (actor in costume) listens to the Aztecs.
