Scene 1. Scarcity and the Problem 2 °A
Narrator:
A long time ago, before the arrival of Quetzalcoatl, the first inhabitants of
Mesoamerica struggled to survive.
They only ate roots and hunted animals. But they did not have corn, the sacred
grain hidden behind the mountains.
The ancient gods tried to break the mountains with their colossal strength, but they failed.
Stage Directions:- Actors play as Aztecs, looking hungry, tired, and weak.
- Others act as
gods pushing against the mountains but collapsing, exhausted.
Scene 2. The Wisdom of Quetzalcoatl 2°B
Narrator:
The Aztecs begged Quetzalcoatl for help.
“I will bring corn to you,” said the wise god.
Then Quetzalcoatl observed an ant carrying a single grain of corn from the
mountains.
Stage Directions:
- Quetzalcoatl (actor in costume) listens to the Aztecs.
- An actor dressed as an ant walks slowly, carrying a golden corn kernel.
- Quetzalcoatl kneels and observes her.
Scene 3. The Alliance and Transformation 2°C
Narrator:
Quetzalcoatl spoke with the ant. She agreed to guide him.
Then, the mighty god transformed into another ant, and together they marched
toward the mountains.
Stage Directions:
- Ant actress takes Quetzalcoatl’s hand.
- Quetzalcoatl mimics transformation: crouches, walks like an ant.
- Both exit walking toward the “mountains.”
Scene 4. The Journey and the Reward 2°D
Narrator:
The journey was full of obstacles, but Quetzalcoatl never gave up.
Finally, he reached the corn. He carried a grain on his back and returned to
the people.
The god gave them the sacred gift: maize.
Stage Directions:
- Actors create obstacles: rocks, rivers, or mountains. Quetzalcoatl-ant struggles but continues.
- Quetzalcoatl lifts a large golden corn kernel.
- He delivers it to the Aztecs, who kneel and receive it with joy.
Scene 5. Prosperity and Celebration
Narrator:
The Aztecs planted the seed. Corn grew and spread across the land.
They became strong, built cities, palaces, and temples.
And they honored Quetzalcoatl, the god who gave them the sacred grain — maize,
the symbol of life and prosperity.
Stage Directions:
- Actors pretend to sow seeds, then raise tall stalks of corn (props).
- Others build cities with symbolic gestures.
- At the end, everyone dances and celebrates around Quetzalcoatl, raising corn high.
